Report代写|LSMRDM: Research Design Methods

Critical Evaluation of Research Design (MA TESOL Portfolio Track)

Deadline: Friday 22 April 2022, before 12:00 midday For the Research Design module, you are required to submit a critical evaluation of one data collection method as it was used in two published articles. The evaluation, 2000-2500 words, must include a detailed and critical analysis of the selected data collection method, e.g., questionnaires, tests (e.g., of vocabulary knowledge), interviews, observations, samples of learner language data, diaries). The evaluation will include the following sections:

  1. a) Rationale for the evaluation of the data collection method:

In your rationale you can answer some of these questions: Why is this evaluation important to you and to the field? Why did you choose this method? Why did you choose the two articles? How do you think research might benefit from your critical evaluation of the method?

  1. b) Review of research design literature:

Survey the research design literature on your chosen method (with reference to at least 5 sources in the literature (e.g., Dornyei, 2007; Bell, 2012). Provide a theoretical perspective on the use of the method, its strengths, and weaknesses. Describe how or why using this method is useful/ helpful.

  1. c) Evaluation of selected method as it has been used in two studies:

In this section you will need to provide a detailed evaluation of the data collection method in the two articles you have chosen and to discuss whether it has been used effectively in both articles. You should consider the following:

  • Data source(s): e.g., participants/texts/corpora/etc.
  • Methods/Procedures for data collection
  • Reliability & Validity of the instruments and or protocols used
  • Means of data analysis
  1. d) Conclusion

What conclusions would you arrive at now that you have evaluated this method?

Marking criteria

1 Justification of choice of method and the two articles

2 Knowledge of research design literature

3 Identification and thorough analysis of method

4 Depth and breadth of discussion 5 Clarity of description of the research design

6 Organisation and presentation, style, referencing and quality of language
