Submission
You must submit an electronic version of your work to the course LMS assignment folder by the due date and time (9am, Jan 19).
The submission should also include a cover page which is the printed and signed Student Academic Integrity Form (MSME-S0001) which is available at the MSME Student Knowledge Space. The submission of the assignment will be considered as incomplete, that is, earning a zero grade, unless the form is submitted along with the work by the due date. (The Department of Business Economics will use TurnItIn.com to process your submitted work for academic integrity before the grade is available.)
Grading Criteria
Your grade of the project will be based on how you apply the concepts you learn in the course to answer the given questions. This includes using appropriate evidence to support your argument (e.g. graphs, tables, and descriptive statistics). Also, the evidence must be formatted properly in terms of appearance to help audience to process the information presented to them.
Self Study
Read class materials for classes 1 – 7 especially on data visualization.
What to Do?
Apply tools we have discussed in the course to evaluate the following claim that South American soccer players perform better than European soccer players at international matches such as the World Cup.
Identify the secondary data that can help evaluate the claim. Provide a brief explanation why you think the data are appropriate for the question. Collect the data from reliable
source(s) and enter them into an Excel file. Cite the data source properly following APA style. You must show the collected data to the instructors in class by Dec 20.
Do some simple data cleaning in Excel using “filter” to ensure that we do not have any typing errors in the data. Make a correction to the data if necessary. Report on what you did to check the data you have entered.
From the claim as the data you have collected, state your hypotheses on what kind of results you expect to see when you examine the data. Discuss your hypotheses with the instructors in class by Dec 27. (Here the hypotheses are propositions made as a basis for reasoning, without any assumption of its truth. They are not statistical hypotheses specified in statistical inference).
Based on the hypothesis you have set, perform exploratory data analysis. Your analysis should include creating appropriate graphs, tables and summary statistics, and they must be formatted properly. (50 points for using the right evidence and 30 points for formatting the evidence properly.) Discuss your results with the instructors Jan 5
Evaluate the claim based on the results you have obtained. Explain your answer including pointing out a particular figure or statistic that allow you to make such a conclusion.
Is there any limitation to your data and/or your analysis that may affect the results? Explain.
