这是一个加拿大的生态系统气候分析作业代写
Aim of Assignment: Climate Normals are used to describe the average climatic conditions of a
particular location. At the completion of each decade, Environment and Climate Change Canada
(ECCC) updates its Climate Normals for as many locations as possible using observations from the
previous 30 years. In this assignment, you will be working with climate Normals calculated for
Canadian cities for the period 1981 to 2010. The purpose of this exercise is to examine the climate data
provided and create maps of the climatic regions of Canada. The exercise involves data analysis and
organization, and then decision-making to cluster stations of similar climatic regime into regions
QUESTION SHEET
1. Mark the 17 stations on the map of blank Canada provided with this exercise (you will have to use
an atlas to locate the cities on a map of Canada). 2 marks
2. Using Excel, draw box-and-whisker plots (box plots) for each station for each dataset (i.e. draw 17
box-and-whisker plots for temperature in your first chart, then another 17 box-and-whisker plots
for precipitation in your second chart). Box-and-whisker plots provide an excellent visual summary
of many important aspects of a distribution. In this exercise, box-and-whisker plots will display the
median, minimum and maximum temperature and precipitation values for each station. Note: Once
you have created these charts, change the default options to show: (a) inner points; (b) outlier
points; (c) mean markers; and (d) mean line. Use the “Exclusive median” for the quartile
calculation. A video describing how to do this in excel is available on YouTube. 5 marks
3. Examine the plots for both temperature and precipitation and note the level and spread of the data
sets for each station. Consider also (a) the total precipitation and (b) the seasonality of the
precipitation. Using these six indices (level and spread, for each of temperature and precipitation;
total precipitation and seasonality), group the stations into sets with similar climate. 3 marks
4. Draw climatic zones on the map provided, and provide a name for each zone You can do this
digitally. A copy of the map has been provided just in case you do this manually. 5 marks.
5. Justify your selection and demarcation of climatic regions (in less than 200 words). 10 marks.
