PREREGISTRATION

Your assessment for this module is about preregistration.

In various videos, I’ve talked about publication bias, confirmation bias and hindsight bias, and questionable research practices (p-hacking, HARKing). And I’ve also talked about Registered Reports. These are all relevant to answering the questions in the assessment.

It is easy to find more information about preregistration.

As a starting point, look here and here

ASSESSMENT

No more than 500 words (i.e., one short para for each question)

a) What is preregistration? When it is appropriate? (When, if ever, is it not appropriate?)

b) In your opinion, is preregistration a useful intervention for problems in statistical reporting, like p-hacking and HARKing? Present your argument.

c) What is the relationship between preregistration and Registered Reports?

d) Identify two platforms on which public preregistrations can made. Note any interesting differences between platforms.
